ducking hatched w/twisted neck(?)

Last Sunday we had a duckling hatch that appears to have a twisted neck. It walks unsteadily, seems to be able to eat normally, but has some difficulty drinking.  It's about 3/4 the size of siblings that hatched from the same clutch.  Is there any thing we can do for this tough little one?

    hi
you could try a vitamin supplement with selenium which is useful for treating wry neck  . being so small he would only need about a quarter of a tablet daily.
if this is a birth defect then only time will tell if he will survive i'm sorry.
how badly is it twisted? was he born with it or has it developed over the week?

  • The duckling was born with it.  Thank you for your suggestion we'll try it and let you know the results
  • It's hard to determine how twisted it may be.  When eating it appears to be normal, whenever drinking it seems as if it has a problem orienting itself for drinking, takes maybe a sip, then seems to throw itself back and then a few moments of spinning before reorienting itself.
