Suddenly sick hen

One of our 3 year old hens suddenly became sick this morning. She has not eaten or drank anything all day, is listless and not moving just staying in a standing position. Her breast bone seems to be protruding more than normal, her head is down and she just seems very unhappy. We have isolated her in case she has a virus. We have not seen anything like this before, can anyone advise.

it could be anything but try and get some tylan fast put a small amount in water and get her to drink some repeat 2 or 3 times a day for 3 to 4 days that should clear most illnesses

Check her crop first - is it very solid or very liquidy?

Also check her rear end and feel underneath her abdomen - does it feel hot and swollen?

What do her poos look like? Any egg yolk in them or worms or are they tarry?

Answering these questions will give us more info to help with a possible diagnosis. Hopefully you've got her in a warm place indoors anyway so you can check these things tonight.

Hope to hear from you soon...
