How long does moult last?`

Hi, I wondered if someone could give me some indication as to how long my chooks will moult for? They have just started....one has a bare bum, and the others are just starting to look like four scruff bags..... From our five chooks, we are still averaging 3 or 4 eggs daily, but expect that to drop. Is that correct? Thanks for your advice.

Usually a full moult will take up to six weeks, so you won't get eggs for that period of time either. Sometimes our hens have gone completely bald - but they get their new quills through surprisingly quickly. Just watch out for any signs of "drunkenness" - moulting birds will be using up a lot of nutrients and may need extra protein in their diet. (see past threads and "poorly hen diet").
