Yesterday a client bought one of her Buff Orpingtons to me as over the course of several weeks its comb had begun to swell. My colleague had previously dispensed antibiotics which had no effect and the comb is now swollen to ping pong ball size and is very warm. I assumed an abscess but when the swelling was lanced there was no purulent material, simply blood. It certainly didnt look like blood that had gathered there in the manner of haematoma - it appeared to be swollen tissue with a good blood supply. There are no other signs of any sort of respiratory disease. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be and how to treat. The hen is well but starting to be rather uncomforatable! thanks. Zoe
