What is this all about?

Anyone else witness this type of behaviour?.

Every day little Ginge ,well, 'goes under'.....she pushes her head under Artemis who will stand there for about a half hour.

I really don't know what this means.

Any ideas?

yes - but dont really know what its about ...Marilyn does it to Cherry all the time which is really upsetting his balance on his one good leg
i assumed she was using Cherry as a surrogate broody seeing as she is so young
must be a strong bond there :D

It must be a posh bird thing Sandie. Looks like your NN thinks it's odd behaviour too:D

Ah beautiful Brahma..... It looks like a young chick going under mum for warmth or safety. Odd to see it in a fully grown hen isn't it? I have never seen it here. Is there a connection between them? Or.... is Ginge trying to get Artemis to take an interest??

Artemis would take interest in a stone....Ginge would have no need to coax!

Artemis is a very big and unusually dominant sort of a cock, whilst Ginge is a diminutive hen who is low on the pecking order. I'm thinking that she knows she will get all the 'best pickings' if she hangs around with the Main Man.

My crew split into splinter groups based upon one of the cocks in order to avoid conflict by day.

Definitely looks like a request for protection then! Hero worship.

1 of our Amaricaunas used to do this under our cock every night. I thought it was strange but cute. We have one Delaware that likes to tuck under our arms and other hens all of the time.

Maybe she just thinks she is still a chick!

Whatever the reason it is always peaceful and nobody seems to mind.
